Why do I need my house washed?
It is imperative to maintain a clean property for the aesthetic value and much-desired curb appeal, along with providing lasting protection against building material degradation. When mold, mildew, algae and other airborne contaminants are allowed to remain on the exterior surfaces of a property, they will contribute to premature paint failure and can also cause permanent staining on your siding material, concrete & gutters.
Washing the home's exterior is an easy and affordable way to improve the appearance of your home. Even homes with brick and stucco siding can be washed if done correctly. Another reason is health. Mildew and mold are not good for your respiratory system and can create allergies. If your home is washed regularly, the mildew cannot spread to the inside of your home and start new growth inside. Contact our team at Time To Shine Power Washing & Window Cleaning today to get connected with a reliable roof and house washing companies.
Isn't mold a health problem?
Yes, Mold and mildew around your home create unhealthy conditions for those with allergies and asthma. Our methods of cleaning will remove mold from siding, trim, concrete surfaces. Note: If you have children that play on driveways or walks with mildew growing on them, you should have those areas cleaned. Do you supply the water for homes with wells?
Yes! At Time To Shine Power Washing, we will supply water using our fresh water tank system. Water can be brought on-site if needed, but customarily we use the customer's water supply for residential pressure washing jobs. Compared to other roof and house washing companies, we offer a variety of services designed to preserve your property and protect water sources like your well.
Will the cleaning harm my plants?
All of our cleaning is absolutely safe for plants, people, and pets when handled properly. Our exclusive power wash cleaning method uses ultra-safe, self-neutralizing cleaning and rinsing agents. Unlike many roof and house washing companies, we prioritize eco-friendly solutions that are tough on grime but gentle on your surroundings.
Can you wash a house or deck in the rain?
Yes. Your house is going to get wet when we wash it, so there is little difference to rain. We will reschedule if there is danger involved, such as lightning. Like other professional roof and house washing companies, safety is always our top priority when weather conditions pose a risk.
Do I have to be home on the day of service?
Time To Shine Power Washing works around your schedule, providing cleaning service so convenient that you don't even need to be at your property while we're on the job! If you are not going to be home on the day of service, please remember to close all windows, clear your driveway, and put away fragile decorations on your home and deck. Like many roof and house washing companies, we aim to make the process hassle-free while delivering high-quality results.
Can you remove oil stains on concrete from my garage or driveway that have been there for years?
Absolutely! Oil stains can seep through concrete and after years of resting in the concrete it makes it much more difficult to restore a brand new look. Time To Shine utilizes chemicals and detergents that dig beneath the concrete and eat away at the oils. Some stains will be completely eliminated and others will leave a small gray stain left after the cleaning. Either way, your concrete will look much better after being restored and cleaned. Unlike some roof and house washing companies, we specialize in deep concrete cleaning that targets even the toughest, set-in stains.
There are small very dark raised spots on my siding in places. What is this and can you remove them?
The black raised spots are called Artillery Fungus spores and are caused by a mushroom that grows in rotted mulch, bark, or wood chips. They are found in areas that are near or above mulch. This fungus shoots its spores in the air, hence, the names Artillery or Shotgun Fungus.
Over time, the dots created by flying fungus will dissipate. Artillery fungus is a fungus that usually spends most of its time in gardens and on mulch. The artillery fungus is a white-rotting, wood-decay fungus that likes to live on moist landscape mulch. Unfortunately, not much can be done to remove the dots. The only other option besides power washing is to sand off the spots by hand, but you will leave marks on your siding. The only real option is to put up new siding and be sure to leave space between your flower beds and your siding. Some roof and house washing companies offer cleaning methods that may help reduce the appearance of these spores, but complete removal is often not guaranteed.
Preventing further outbreaks is the best way to deal with this problem. Once the Artillery Fungus has made an appearance, the cure is to completely remove all bark and hardwood mulch from around the home. This includes removing a few inches of the topsoil underneath the mulch bed, as the spores can still grow in the soil. Replace the mulch with non-organic matter, such as decorative stone or rubber mulch products. A way to safely remove these spores from siding or trim has not been found.
How often should I get my house washed?
In our experience, you should get your house washed every two to three years. Some lighter-colored siding in heavily shaded areas may require washing every year. According to Grand View Research, the exterior window cleaning market grew by 6.8% in 2024, highlighting the increasing demand for exterior maintenance services. Contact us today to get connected with one of the area's most trusted roof and house washing companies.
Why can't I get an estimate over the phone or Internet?
We get this question a lot from our customers. Each and every job is different which requires different chemicals, pressures and cleaning methods.
We visit each job for two reasons: First is to get to meet face to face with our customers so we can answer in person all of your questions and explain our cleaning procedure yet if you are not home when we provide you with the estimate, we will email you an estimate along with a copy of our insurance, Second is so that we can actually see the work that needs to be done and evaluate it. This allows us to know what to expect when the work starts and the customer can see what to expect after the job is done. As with most professional roof and house washing companies, a personal evaluation helps us deliver more accurate pricing and better results.
What are the black lines on my gutters? Can they be removed?
The black lines you see on your gutters are not dirt! They are caused by certain materials from your composite roofing shingles that become "electrostatically" bonded to the surface of your rain gutters. The bond is so strong that it cannot be completely removed with just soap and water.
Don't be deceived—those black streaks are harder to remove than you might think. Many homeowners try to clean them but are unsuccessful. However, we can make your gutters look new again.
We wash from the foundation to the gutters and everything in between. Depending on how long it’s been since the house or building was last washed and what contaminants are present, we may need to detail certain areas to ensure they are thoroughly cleaned. In most cases, runoff from roof tiles, oxidation (the black streaks), exhaust, and road film cannot be removed with power washing alone.
The black streaks are attached to the gutters electrostatically. The negatively charged ions from roof runoff stick to the positively charged ions on the gutters, creating the stubborn, irregular lines. This process is called oxidation. These stains cannot be removed by power washing alone; removal requires hand scrubbing and detailing to break the electrostatic bond.
Yes, some contaminants on the gutters may include dirt, mold, bird droppings, and algae, but the majority of the black streaks (often referred to as "tiger stripes") are caused by rain running over the asphalt shingles and dripping down the side of the gutter.
The black streaks and dots are the result of electrostatic bonding between tar and asphalt runoff from roofing materials and other contaminants that attach to aluminum materials such as gutters, downspouts, and capping. These stains may seem impervious to power washing, but they can be removed with special chemicals and detailed procedures.
My contractor said my siding and deck are zero maintenance. Is this true?
Low maintenance, yes. Zero maintenance, no. Anything left outside in the sun and humidity will get dirty. Like everything in life, it will need to be cleaned. Treat your house like your car and give it a bath.

Why should I pay you for something I could do myself?
Great question! Washing may seem like an easy task at first, but once you begin, it becomes a completely different story. There are many factors to consider: What kind of surface do I need to wash? Do I need chemicals to get it clean? How will I reach the top? What if I use too much pressure? How much time do I really want to spend on this?
Washing your car is already a big task, let alone washing your house. Our state-of-the-art equipment and industrial-strength chemicals allow us to wash houses professionally without the risk of damage, ensuring 100% satisfaction. When you factor in the cost of equipment rental, inadequate chemicals, and the time and labor involved, it’s often more cost-effective to hire a professional.
